Lupita Nyong’o Beauty Secrets

By now, we all know how talented and gracious Lupita Nyong’o is. She won 2014 Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for 12 Years A Slave and has became an overnight style sensation known for her colorful wardrobe and radiant makeup. So I am beyond excited that the man behind her winning looks, Nick Barose, was nice enough to share his beauty makeup tips.

What’s been your favourite look on Lupita so far?

I don’t have a favorite one because every look we did stand on its own, I love that she lets me play with fun colours and she looks great in everything. That’s also my make up philosophy, which is always have fun and not be afraid of colours.

What’s the process behind choosing her makeup for all different red carpet occasions?

It’s pretty spontaneous, I mean I see the dress, I try to make the make up look different each time and I bring a whole lots of colours we choose from, when I see each dress in advance I usually have a clear idea as far as colour palette bit I like choices so for example the Oscars, I had 5 lipsticks but then narrowed to 2 the day of.

What was the inspiration behind Lupita’s Academy Award look?

I was inspired by Elizabeth Taylor, if she were to go on vacation. I wanted to pay homage to old Hollywood but not let the makeup come off too period or retro. I took elements from Liz Taylor, who was known for her cat eyes, without being too heavy handed about it. We focused on an airy gray eye shadow slightly winged at the outer corners with peachy lip that’s ethereal and fresh for spring. What would be some easy steps for a woman to get red carpet ready at home?

– Wear long wearing primer to keep make up from fading,

– learn to add a few individual lashes, 3-5 on outer corners,

– don’t forget the body.. In love with body shimmer, can be lotion or powder you dust on.
