Get The Look: Renée Zellweger, SAG Awards 2020

The awards season is in full swing! Besides hearing which of the stars win the awards they’re nominated for, my other favourite part of red carpet season is the hair and makeup.

Renée Zellweger won best actress in a film for her performance in ‘Judy,’ at the 2020 Screen Actors Guild last Sunday. She stunned on the red carpet in a navy Maison Margiela Haute Couture gown which was created especially for her by John Galliano, and high pony-tail hairstyle created by Hollywood celebrity hairstylist Richard Marin.

When it comes to red carpet glamour, the hair is just as important as the outfit. What are the trendiest hairstyles in Hollywood this awards season?

The trend is really back to smooth finished hair.. Loose beach waves are now classics but the look now is more well cut, pretty groomed hair.

You often work with Renée Zellweger, the Oscar front-runner. What is your all-time favourite red carpet beauty moment from her?

We’ve done so many red carpets together, Renée loves her hair up! We’ve done many variations of chignons and buns but my favorite on Renée is a pony tail and the SAG Awards pony was of my all time favorites.

What was the inspiration behind Renée’s SAG Awards hairstyle?

Renée wanted fun and effortless (which all hairstylists know takes quite a bit of time!). I had pics on my phone of 60’s inspired ponytails and we went from that starting point.

Is it difficult not to repeat the same hairstyle twice?

Yes!- since we are on a award show marathon right now, I keep a file on my phone just of her looks that we have done and what event it was for so when we create a look for her latest dress, I slightly change it up as simple as a slide part from her classic centre part.

Which products have you used on Renée?

For SAG Awards, I was using Biolage products, they have a great heat protectant spray for pre blow drying and before curling the hair that I love to protect the hair. I’m also a big fan of Oribe for all hair types.

How do you prep for a major awards shows like SAG?

I talk to the fashion stylist, find out what’s the dress, see if the designer has references they want me to see and then collect my own images on Pinterest and file them in my phone. When I see my client, I show the references and see what she’s feeling that day and we take it from there… I’m always open to a last minute change because too thought out of a plan sometimes becomes boring.

And lastly, please debunk the biggest hair myth you’ve heard.

WASH YOUR HAIR, 2nd day hair does not always look better!
