RED CARPET GLAM SQUAD: Hairstylist Sascha Breuer

attends 'Inside Llewyn Davis' Premiere during the 66th Annual Cannes Film Festival at Palais des Festivals on May 19, 2013 in Cannes, France.

Do you remember that stunning updo Jessica Biel has worn at the Cannes Film Festival couple years ago? The man who created it is an international Wella’s hairstylist Sascha Breuer. He’s also the genius behind all the gorgeous updos and perfectly coiffed waves worn by Anne Hathaway, Jaime King, Hilary Swank, Keira Knightley, Shailene Woodley, America Ferrera, Naomi Campbell, Zoe Saldana and Crown Princess of Sweden.

Sascha’s warm personality communicates his boundless creativity and passion for collaboration. His expertise in forecasting hair and color trends has made Sascha a valued consultant to top global beauty brands and sought-after hairdresser to an impressive list of celebrity clients. We caught up with Sascha to hear all about his time as a glam squad member. Here’s what he had to share..

.. about hairstyle trends that we could expect on the red carpet this award season:

I think two factors that are going to really influence red carpet hairstyles this year are the glam quotient that comes with these events and the season: winter’s all about sexy, sophisticated style and warm, bold colors. Updos make for great formal hairstyles when you want to show off a fantastic outfit and jewelry and never go out of fashion, so the red carpet is a great place to mine inspiration for occasions. I’m also hoping to spot some new spring-summer 2017 hair color trends towards the end of the awards season!

.. about men and grooming, and any trends popular right now:

Men’s grooming is really coming into its own in 2017. We’re going to see a lot of classic Old Hollywood men’s hairstyles make a big comeback this year: think comb-over hairstyles and side-parts in thick, shiny hair. There’s also a real interest in creating hair and beard combinations that actually work well together instead of just prioritizing one or the other. When it comes to beards, the motto this past year has been ‘the bigger and bushier, the better’ but I think we might just see the subtler styles such as the good-old goatee get their share of the spotlight in 2017.

.. about his favourite hairstyle on the red carpet:

A classic French twist with a bejeweled accessory is an old favorite. It works beautifully for all face types and age groups. Most women think of it as a workplace hairstyle so I recommend softening it up with bangs or leaving a few strands loose at the front. Also, I love ‘basic hairstyles’ like ponytails being glammed up with a little volume at the crown. So simple and effective!

.. about hair trends that should have retired:

We’re seeing a definite shift towards the classic hair trends. The mood is changing and while the extreme color trends from the last few seasons will always have a place in mainstream style now, this year is going to be all about timeless beauty. Natural textures, longer lengths and clean lines are going to define women’s hair trends in 2017. Hair color in 2017 will be more natural, with an emphasis on sophisticated, understated glam. The rainbow hair color trends have been fun to watch and work with but I’m really looking forward to a more luxurious, more elegant phase in fashion.
