Sunnie is currently in Cannes but she set aside some time from her jam-packed schedule to share her expert tips on hair care with us so you can look as sleek as a star!

How did you start working with your celebrity clients? Anyone particular you love to work with the most?

After working 10 years behind the chair in a salon I ventured into the fashion and editorial parts of the beauty industry. Working with photographers, wardrobe and makeup artists in the industry led me to build relationships with celebrities. I love working with Elisabeth Moss, Claire Holt, Adria Arjona and Allison Williams. They all have such different hair types and desires for their looks so it’s fun collaborating with them for each event.

What’s a celebrity hair secret we might not know about, but should?

Most celebrity’s use hair extensions to enhance their hair. I also use hair powders and shadows to blend haircolor that has grown out or to fill in the hairline for more fullness.

Any specific hair care tool and product(s) you can’t live without?

These are in my personal bathroom and in my kit:

Head & Shoulders Smooth & Silky Three Action Formula – it fights hair frizz for 24 hours. I ask my clients to shower with it before an event if they are going to be wearing a sleeker look or have curly/wavy hair. Leonor Greyl Condition Naturalle – heat protecting spray essential before a blowdry or heat application. Dyson Blowdryer – this cuts my blowdry time in half and makes the hair so shiny and frizz free.

With the Cannes Film Festival on right now, what are some of the trends that we can see on the red carpet?

Hair has been minimal styling. Allowing the dresses and jewelry to be the hero on the red carpet. Lots of slick back looks. That tends to be the favored look at Cannes because of how windy it can be at the festival.

As a pro, what are the biggest hair care do’s and dont’s?

DO – use a weekly hair masque applied on semi damp hair before you get in the shower. It will penetrate the hair shaft for stronger healthier softer feeling hair.

DO – use less heat on your hair by changing up your hair routine and going for heatless hairstyles like a sleek chignon or braid.

DON’T – use that blowdryer handed down from your mom! It is probably burning your hair! Today’s hair tools have ionic technology and are designed to protect your hair from heat damage.

DON’T – follow all the fashion trends when choosing a hairstyle. Find a hairdresser that really understands your face angles, lifestyle and style needs. They will design a look that compliments your personal style and is timeless.

DON’T – skimp on a good hairdresser! Your hair is the outfit you can never take off! Invest in good tools and products that will keep your hair manageable and healthy.

Summer’s almost here, which means some of us are probably thinking about trimming that mane of winter hair. What is your top hair look for this summer?

Mid waist hair that is almost one length and undone or embellished ponytails and chignons.
