How To Get Red-carpet ready

Toronto International Film Festival is kicking off this week and that means Canada’s most famous red carpet once again unfurls as some of Hollywood’s brightest stars come to town.

Celebs sure do know a thing or two about getting red carpet ready but believe it or not, these famous women look just like the rest of us underneath all their makeup. Yes, they have the benefit of learning from the experts for the days when they have to apply their own makeup, or they just let the experts do it themselves but for us, non-celebrities, fitting in among those flawless faces isn’t as difficult as it sounds. With the right products and a little preparation, it’s easy to create your own gorgeous red-carpet look at home. To show how it’s done, I’ve partnered with three of my favourite brands and asked a professional make-up artist, my friend Deena Elieff, to help me create three swoon-worthy beauty looks.

#1 LOOK by L’Oreal

This is one of my favourite makeup looks. It’s easy to do and looks amazing on anyone. The trick is to find a red lipstick that suits you, line your eyes in a way that suits your eye shape and make sure you neutralise any redness in your skin. A natural blush is attractive and everyone has one. When you blend out your foundation though it can make your skin dull. Kissing your cheeks with a little bit of blush makes your look come together and livens up the skin. Go big with your lashes and add multiple coats of your favourite black mascara. If you want to take your look to the next step, add a pair of natural looking falsies as well.

#2 LOOK by Charlotte Tilbury

For a glowing summer look like this, dewy skin is a must. Try not to over powder and make friends with a luminizer. When it comes to bronzer, apply in the shape of a 3 along the forehead, cheekbone and jawline to add contour and warmth to the skin that looks believable and natural. This bronzy makeup look will look the best with natural, warm eye shadows. Because the focus is on the face and eyes with this look, they say you should stick with a nude lipstick or gloss with a warm undertone. I prefer to add a little bit of colour to my lips and this candy, fresh, pretty, pink shade is just perfect.

#3 LOOK by Clé de Peau Beauté

In case you missed it, colorful eye looks are having a moment right now. It feels fresh and fun and it’s so incredible to see how a simple bright color can instantly make your eyes pop out, especially when you are dealing with lilac, purple and blue tones. When you do a bold eye, it’s effortless to pair it with a nude lip. To make nude lipstick more dramatic but still natural-looking, pick one with “a hint of sheen so it’s not matte and pasty, with a tad of color like peach or pink in it. Complete the look by swiping on a pink shade of blush to your cheeks.
