Get the Look: Kerry Washington, TIFF

Award-winning actor, producer, director, and activist Kerry Washington made an epic entrance at ‘American Son’ TIFF premiere last night in Toronto.

There’s been no shortage of amazing red carpet moments this year’s film festival but it was all about Kerry’s Zuhair Murad Couture gown, which served up maximum wow-factor thanks to both its volume and beautiful pattern. Kerry, who is also Neutrogena brand ambassador and creative consultant, wore her jet black hair in bangs and a tousled bob, and had a daringly dark shade of violet on her lips for the premiere. She worked with NY based celebrity makeup artist, Rebecca Restrepo, to achieve her bold look.

Rebecca, whose client roster includes the likes of Emily Blunt, Mandy Moore, Ruth Negga and Debra Messing, shared an up-close look at Kerry’s red-carpet glam.

“I was inspired by the dress. It was a modern interpretation of a black velvet brocade gown. I kept the face fresh by giving it a dewy effect with a pop of color anchoring the touch of edge, making it modern. I did it by mixing and making an almost black, red, brown lip. I applied coral blush with a touch of the bronzer of Kerry’s cheek palette for Neutrogena just on the top of the cheekbone, ever so slightly close to the lower eye area. I used a mixture of a lipstick and eye pencils for the lip. I used Kerry’s lip palette from Neutrogena. I used the burgundy lip shade over a veil of feathered black eyeliner that I had applied first to the lip as the initial base color. Then blotted the lipstick finishing by feathering the Deep Brown Eyeliner all over the lip. For the eyes I did a mixture of lip balm and a small dab of the highlighter shade of the cheek palette on the eyelid. Finishing it all with a lot of black mascara.”
