Real talk: EYELASH EXTENSIONS

I woke up like this. (I always wanted to say that!)

It’s important to feel confident about how you look. And many of us simply feel more confident with makeup. When it comes to me, I wear minimal make-up but mascara is a must. And eye lash extensions take your eyes from dull to dreamy without the hassle of a daily routine. I recently got mine done at Mync Beauty and here are my honest thoughts.

PROS

You no longer need mascara. Forget endless time spent every morning slathering on layer after layer of mascara. With professional eyelash extensions, you’ll wake up every morning with your eyes bright and ready to take on the day.  Plus you can sleep an extra 10 minutes every morning!

The process is a painless procedure. My lash technician was fully trained to work with my natural hair colour and general style, to create a unique set of lashes tailored to me.

I fell asleep throughout most of my initial 50-minute appointment. Lash extensions were placed on each of my individual lashes, one at a time. My eyes were closed through out the entire painless process and the lashes were put on with a special medical-grade, odorless adhesive. After 50 minutes of a nice snooze, I woke up to a totally new ME. Meaning – I felt instantly prettier. Not only did they give me length, but they gave me volume and thickness that I couldn’t get from any mascara.

CONS (THINGS TO CONSIDER)

Water and steam near your eyes is to be avoided for 24-48 hours after your appointment to allow adequate time for the glue to bond.

You should avoid sleeping on them. You need to groom them regularly, and brush them out whenever you get them wet. You must avoid any oil-based products around your eyes such as eye makeup removers and eye creams.

What I am personally struggling with, is the fact that I can’t rub my eyes. Or wash them properly every morning how I used to. I used to rub my eyes in the shower after washing my hair or when they got itchy from allergies.

Getting eyelash extensions is a legit financial commitment. The extensions will last anywhere from three to six weeks depending on the growth cycle of your lashes and how well you take care of them. You have to go for refills if you decide to keep them, because if you wait too long they’ll fall out naturally and you’ll have to start over from scratch.

So what’s my verdict?

Despite the fact that I’m obsessed with how they look (and with the fact that I can sleep longer), I don’t necessarily see this being a longterm relationship. But I would definitely recommend trying them out for yourself.
