Oscars 2018: Best & Worst Dressed

The stars have walked the red carpet at Sunday’s Academy Awards, with Emily Blunt, Jennifer Garner and Allison Janney among the fashion standouts of the evening. In contrast to the red carpet blackout at the Golden Globes and BAFTA’s, white and bright colour dresses were the most popular choice at the Oscars 2018.

Leading the pack was Emily Blunt, who stayed true to her impeccable red carpet style. She looked sensational in a high-neckline Victorian-inspired Schiaparelli Haute Couture gown with tulle shoulders, and a dramatic train. With her golden locks styled into a lustrous chignon, Emily complemented her flattering ensemble with Chopard jewelry and a Judith Leiber pillbox clutch.

Jennifer Garner proved she knows a thing or two about how to dress for a red carpet. She looked better than ever in the jewel-toned gown by Atelier Versace. Jennifer paired the look with Versace shoes, Piaget jewellery and her hair swept to one side in a deep part. She amped up the feminine look with smokey eye makeup and nude lips. Goddess!

Best Actress nominee Margot Robbie looked effortlessly glam in the Chanel Haute Couture column gown with its petite train and glittering, off-the-shoulder straps. She accessorized it with simple, minimalist jewelry, and a simple clutch purse by Chanel. Her hair was down with a slight wave and a part to the side, while her makeup was incredibly simple and natural.

Allison Janney rocked the Oscars in a gorgeous red Reem Acra dress with statement sleeves, Jimmy Choo heels, Roger Vivier bag and diamonds for days. The diamonds, all 128 carats of them, were by Forevermark. I mean… there’s no question she looked red hot!

Equally fabulous was Zendaya, who wowed in a chocolate brown, off-the-shoulder chiffon frock by Giambattista Valli Couture. She completed the chic look with a classy top knot, jewelry by Bulgari and Brian Atwood sandals. Zendaya’s 2018 Oscars look is everything a fashion lover could ever dream of!

Greta Gerwig made a history as the fifth woman to be nominated for best director in Oscars history — and she was doing it in style. She hit the red carpet in a mustard yellow Rodarte gown paired with a bright red lip and added a statement necklace that gave their looks some edge. That look is giving me total Michelle Williams vibes!

The biggest disappointment of the night? Emma Stone and her conscious choice to dress down for Oscar’s red carpet. That Emma Stone, who always delivers. That Emma Stone, who wowed last year in a gorgeous, crystal-embroidered Givenchy number. That Emma Stone, who is my fashion hero. Well, she missed the mark this time around. The pants and blazer combo by Louis Vuitton ended up looking too casual and cheap for the occasion.

Salma Hayek‘s Gucci look was also a flop. Ever looked at a picture and wondered what the hell was going on? Head-to-toe sequins combined with lilac colour and heavy-looking draped crystals made for a bizarre look.

Meanwhile, Whoopi Goldberg was drowning in excess material… d-r-o-w-n-i-n-g! The actress and talk show host can always be counted on to wear something that stands out. This year she stood out but in the wrong way.
